Normally I'd go with the all grass moves but in this case, CP is too low. The other one isn't really appealing for me as well. It might be okay to use as an attacker but for me Venusaurs are meant to take down water Pokémons. And no moveset does that better than grass type moves. I'd say, sacrifice some majestic beasts to the gods and ask them for a better IV and / or higher level one with a decent moveset. I won't waste dust and candies on what you have right now. That's just me though.

I think the best option is to evolve another one, ok, theres a good chance or you to get a worse one, but think about it, one way or another you'll evolve another one after catchin enough bulbasaurs, even if take months, so unless you really nee a ood venusaur right now, evolving a 3rd is the better option.

I think the whole point of having a good Venusaur is being a pure counter to vaporeon. I'd find a higher CP Bulbasaur to evolve and hope for vine whip/grass, but settle with razorleaf/grass too.

The 325 is just too low.

With Victreebel and Vileplume, I have them in 1300-1500 CP, very useful for level up own team gyms. No need for more having Jolteon and Exeggutor for rivals.

I would also say to evolve another one.

The Vine Whip / Sludge Bomb moveset does more DPS on paper i.e. against a neutral Pokemon, but like others have said, you're going to be using them against Vaporeons (or Rhydons) where you want a grass charge move.

The one with Razor Leaf / Solar Beam has that moveset, but would take a ton of candies (and dust) to power up.

You have just about enough candies to take it to level 30 from what I'm estimating is a level 5 Venusaur (114 candies and 118k dust), of course you don't need to power it up that far if you don't want to - taking it to level 20, the same as evolving a Bulbasaur from an egg, would only take 48 candies and 42k dust.

I assume that the nest is no longer a Bulbasaur nest from your wording. If that is the case, then evolving 90% IV Bulbasaur is pretty much out of the question because you'd still need to power it up after evolving.

Seeing as you were willing to power up 2 Venusaurs that "only" had above average IVs, I would assume that you don't care about having ultra high IVs.

If that is the case, if you have any high level Bulbasaurs, regardless of IVs, you could consider evolving them instead of powering up the 325 CP Venusaur. It'll save you dust if you get a good moveset.

Thanks. You're correct in that I'm not overly concerned about IVs - moreso the moveset, which is why I posed the question. Every gym here is loaded with high level Vaporeons and my Jolteon army is looking for help.

The nest is gone. I did only power up 1 Venusaur tho - the low level one I had caught in the wild. I do have a level 26 and 23 Bulbasaur I could take a chance on...but the trade off is dust vs the candies. Might be easier to get more dust than the candies.

Anyways, I'll probably wait a bit on this to see if another nest pops up in the next couple migrations before I do anything.

no one, all bad

You really want a double grass move. Obviously Vine Whip/Solar Beam would be perfect, but Vine Whip/Petal or Razor/Solar aren't bad.

Unless you're swimming in stardust the 325 is probably a bit low.

Have you got any Bulbasaurs above 70% IVs with decent cp to gamble with? Moveset is more important than IVs but I try and avoid going below 70% unless a wild catch has exceptionally high base stats and cp.

The Bulbasaurs I have:
CP 659 (61%; Lvl 26)
CP 597 (70%; Lvl 23)
CP 158 (90%; Lvl 6)

I'd be tempted to gamble on the lv23 but it is a gamble...

Might be best to wait for the next nest migration and hope there is a new Bulbasaur nest near you.

If you get a good offensive moveset, then IVs don't ultimately matter. Good IVs will just save you a few power ups getting it into a strong offensive position. But if you evolve a low IV pokemon only hoping to get an offensive moveset and instead get a defensive moveset, then you have a pokemon with moves that limit its offensive potential and IVs that cripple its CP potential and gym placement.

For rarer pokemon, I look for 82%+ IV (the highest appraisal range) pokemon to maximize that chances that the evolution will be useful in one way or another.

Definitely evolve another one, maybe you have a better IV Bulbasaur? I generally do not power up below 80% and especially with bad moveset.. well the one with 325 has great moveset but its just a waste of candy and stardust imo

Up

Down

Definitely do not want to put stardust into it. Go for high CP not high IV. Lots of grass mons in gen2 and dragonite is way more effective as a water counter.

Unlike many other trainers, i would level up any pokemon, as long as moveset and IVs are okay. Leveling, from the very beginning is affordable, costs are mostly overestimated. Compare with costs to develope a new Venusaur (Candy) and with leveling from 20 to 30, what ist mostly accepted here.

In your special case, i would not be sure what to do, as i clearly prefere WhipVine as quick attack, independend of leveling costs.

I would agree if one of these had Vine Whip+Solar Beam or even Vine Whip+Petal Blizzard. The two movesets here though are both subpar for attacking Vaporeon or Rhydon. Sludge Bomb doesn't have a type advantage, and in fact is dounle resisted by Rhydon. Razor Leaf+Solar Beam is passable but will make dodging difficult so not nearly as good as it could be. It is not worth spending the candy and stardust for something that is not actually going to solve the desired problem. Your mileage may vary.

Up

I would definitely wait until you're a higher level. Sludge bomb is ideally a defensive move and Vine Whip +Petal Blizzard/Solar Beam is way better. Unless you want to power up your 1560 as a trophy I have a hard time seeing it doing any damage vs Vapes/Garados in gyms.
